Is it ok for a guy to call a few hours beforehand to schedule a date?

He said we'd go out tonight, but it's already afternoon and he hasn't called to confirm an exact time. Is that acceptable? He's the one who asked/initiated so I am not about to intrude and call to schedule it myself especially since he's not bothering to follow up.|||Sure he COULD be busy or nervous!!!
