How close to departure date should I schedule a flight?

I am beginning to book my flight and hotel for a trip this summer (late June) and in error I selected January as the month and the prices were much lower than the prices I got after I corrected the month to June. How long should I wait till my departure?|||It depends on how popular the destination spot is. You should buy your ticket at least 14 days prior to departure. Just remember that June is a busy travel time. Keep check the prices and if the price looks reasonable, go ahead and buy the ticket. If a destination is going to host some big event, then ticket prices may not be cheap nor will they fluctuate much. For example, when China hosted the Olympics, you knew that if you planned to travel anytime around late July, early August to Beijing, the ticket price would be extremely high.|||Usually I buy 1 to 2 months before my trip. The only exception is if I was going to travel during a really busy time (spring break, christmas or to a major event)
