Do you schedule an oil change according to date or mileage?

I don't put as many miles on my car as I used to; now I find that the suggested date has come and gone, but I still have quite a few miles left before the scheduled oil change.|||This country is held hostage by car manufacturers and oil companies when it comes to oil changes. I know this will start a fire storm, but I use AMSOIL in all my vehicles and change oil on a 20,000 mile interval. That's about 1 oil change per year since that is what I average for mileage on my 4 vehicles.

I have many customers that are doing extended oil changes since it saves them time and money.|||mileage|||Both, its which ever comes first 3000 miles or 3 months.|||Look at it (with the dipstick). That will help you decide.|||Mileage, within reason. If the car sits for years, the oil should still be changed before it is driven again.|||Usually you go by mileage but when the car sits longer the date should come into play.
